  • Philip Harris a Chartered Physiotherapist with a masters degree who works with professional athletes and runs a full-time physio clinic.

  • Active IQ guidelines in achieving the criteria required for the Award aspect of this qualification.

Pre Requisites:

  •   Age 16 years +

  • Learners must hold one of the following, or equivalent:

  • Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing.

  • Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing.

  • Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Group Training.

  • Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training.

  • Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral.

  • Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training.

  • Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Yoga.

  • Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Instructing Pilates Matwork.

  • Appreciate that this is a blended online course:

    • You will study theory online.

    • You have to physically practice what you learn.

    • You have written work to complete - 2 units.

    • You will have lots of home study.

    • You will have online sessions with your HMB Tutor via Zoom.

 

Please note - you are encouraged to complete this course within a 6 months of purchase. You can work at your own pace, some will work through all this quicker than others - please keep in contact with your HMB Tutor who will support you through this course every step of the way. 

 

Within your booking form you will need to prove who you are with a driving license or passport with 10 second video.

 

Course Aim

For you to become a a Special Population Teacher 

allowing you to work with Older Adult clients in your area of fitness and wellbeing.

Aim

The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to design and adapt programmes to meet the needs of older adults.

Objectives:

To provide learners with the knowledge to:

  • understand the effects of ageing on the UK population

  • understand the physiological and biomechanical changes associated with ageing and their implications for physical activity

  • understand the medical conditions commonly associated with old age and their implications for physical activity

  • understand the key considerations for older adults participating in physical activity

  • understand the communication skills required to engage with older adults

  • understand the principles of collecting information to plan a physical activity programme for the older adult

  • understand how to identify goals with older adults

  • understand how to plan a physical activity programme for the older adult

  • understand the teaching and instructing skills required when working with older adults

  • be able to plan a physical activity programme for the older adult

  • understand how to adapt exercise to meet the needs of older adults

Complete your LAP - Learner Achievement Portfolio (2 units)

  1. Physical activity and health considerations for the older adult

    1. Worksheet​ - The ageing UK population

    2. Worksheet - Medical conditions associated with old age

    3. Worksheet - Considerations and communications skills for working with older adults

    4. Assignment - Create an information poster / leaflet

  2. Designing and adapting exercise programmes for the older adult

    1. Case Study​ - Create a programme for a specific person

    2. Worksheet  - Adapting exercise sessions to meet the needs of older adults

You can email or post us your work for marking

(email is more efficient).

Please note:

  • Even if all your work is done on your computer and emailed back and forth between you and your HMB Assessor - once all your work is complete and marked you will need to print it off and post it to HMB (in the purple card folder provided to you, bound with the two treasury clips also included) - with all your relevant work in order and the declaration sheet signed.

  • You can submit your work as a mixture of handwritten and typed work - just as long as it is all complete.

  • This is then double checked by your HMB Assessor, that everything is in order.

  • HMB Internal Verifier (IV) may ask to view a sample of your work.

  • Active IQ (AIQ) the awarding body External Verifier (EV) may also ask to view your work.

  • Then when your work as completed these steps, your certificate can be drawn down and posted to you.
