The Association Between Nutrition Knowledge and Protein Intake in Physically Active Middle-Aged and Older Adults

What's involved?

Welcome to my MSc Sport & Exercise Nutrition research project at Middlesex University. This study is exploring the relationship between nutrition knowledge and protein intake in physically active middle-aged and older adults, and how nutrition may support healthy ageing, recovery, muscle maintenance, and physical function.

If you choose to take part, there are four simple stages and templates to complete.

All information will be treated confidentially and anonymised during analysis.

Once the research project is complete, I hope to upload a workshop to this page sharing more information about the findings, healthy ageing, protein intake, and practical ways to support nutrition and exercise as we age, as a thank you for your participation.

Do you meet my 'Inclusion Criteria'?

Inclusion Criteria

  • Aged 40 years or over

  • Physically active adults 

  • Currently participating in regular physical activity or structured exercise at least two times per week (gym/Pilates/cycle/swim/class/tennis...) 

  • Able to complete questionnaires and dietary recording independently in English 

  • Willing to complete the following four stages of the study:

    1. Physical activity log

    2. Self-reported biometric information including age, sex, height, and weight 

    3. 3-day food diary 

    4. Online nutrition knowledge questionnaire 

Exclusion Criteria

  • Currently pregnant or breastfeeding X

  • Currently injured in a way that significantly limits physical activity X

  • Diagnosed eating disorder X

  • Medical condition or dietary restriction that may substantially affect (dietary intake protein metabolism / physical activity participation) X
